Keeping in view the meritorious services rendered to humanity in general and Pakistanis in particular, the Federal Government issued a Commemorative Coin of Rupees 50 in memory of late Dr. Ruth Pfau on May 9th, 2018.
Dr. Ruth Katherina Martha Pfau was an emblem of devotion, commitment and service to the most neglected, if not rejected, people of the society: lepers. Her untiring efforts brought the leprosy under control and Pakistan became the first country in Asia to earn this status. Dr. Ruth's contribution to the society was gratefully acknowledged by the people and state during her life time. She was awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Nishan-e-Quaid-e-Azam and Hilal-e-Pakistan. Furthermore, her mortal remains were wrapped in the national flag in her final journey, besides being accorded state funeral, an honor reserved for the rarest of the rare.
The approval was given by the cabinet meeting held on November 9, 2017, hence year 2017 is marked on the coin instead of 2018.
